On Saturday 14 May, Richard Dimitri (Founder of Senshido) taught the Fundamentals of Personal Protection Seminar at Monash University, Clayton.
Melbourne was the last stop of the 2011 Australian Tour after Brisbane & Sydney, and around 25 people were treated to a great seminar.
The 6-hour seminar covered Senshido’s core concepts and included:
Special thanks to Australian Tour Organiser, Joe Saunders, and Melbourne Organiser, Jim Armstrong for bringing Richard Dimitri to Melbourne!
Rich brings the “human element” that is too often overlooked in self-defence training.
Making a distinction between a “good guy having a bad day” and a “bad guy” brings a level of understanding & compassion for the aggressor that can help us make a choice to either build rapport & de-escalate a hostile confrontation, or go “all out” to save ourselves in situations that cannot be salvaged.
It is clear why Richard Dimitri is regarded as one of the top Personal Protection and Self-Defence Instructors in the world.
I highly recommend Rich’s humane yet realistic approach to self-defence for everyday people, martial artists & martial arts instructors who want to take their self-defence training to the next level.
It was a pleasure to have Rich as our guest, and I’m looking forward to training with him again!

“Not having any martial arts background I was a bit worried I wouldn’t get much out of attending the Senshido Seminar in Melbourne. However, I can confidently say this would have been useful for everyone, no matter what age, fitness level or marial art experience.
This Self-Defence seminar was not only a lesson on defending yourself, but it was also a lesson on one’s “self”. I learnt a lot from Richard, his defence techniques were practical & realistic, and his psychology on life in general was empowering. Highly recommend Senshido to all mankind.”

Richard Dimitri is considered to be one of the world’s leading authorities on personal protection and hand to hand combat. His martial arts training dates back to 1975 and he has been teaching since 1987.
Richard secured himself as one of the top reality based self-defense experts in under 7 years with almost no advertising and minimal exposure. Although considered very ‘underground’, his programs and drills have been integrated by martial artists, law enforcement officers and civilians the world over. His research and martial arts training is backed by much experience where he had to apply his skills both physical and psychological while working as an undercover security guard, a bouncer and bodyguard for high profile clients. Mr. Dimitri’s research in psychology began academically and has since spanned over 15 years.
